본문
Jun, Sung-Ah is a next-generation elite artist who majored in photography and digital art at the New York Platt. It explores a new scene of contemporary art that fuses the technical elements of contemporary photography with media, the mechanism of advanced modern civilization, and experiments with the phenomenon of a pluralistic media of time and space that projects light. It appears that the artist’s such endeavor produces, through her own original aesthetic, the emptiness that arises in the pursuit of the unknown world of humanity and the unstable discourse of the future world that mankind aspires to. Through a youthful consciousness and a critical perspective, it conveys new solutions to the problem of the way we think about human existence within the environment of the Earth’s ecosystem, including recent climate change. Through the interactions and movements of objects seemingly trapped in the transparent space of polyhedra—an ambiguous image shaped by the possibilities and forms of various manipulation technologies within the media ecosystem—the artist conveys, with a free and tense visual perspective, the fiction of human existence and the fragmented masses of various beings concerning life and being. What, then, is the meaning conveyed through a screen effect like a vacuum and the spaces left behind? It presents an imagination that expands the curiosity about human existence in a future space.
Artist Note
Growing up between Korea and California, Sung-Ah Jun developed a keen, observant perspective shaped by cultural displacement. Trained across photography, digital art, and art education at Pratt Institute and Teachers College Columbia University, she fluidly traverses painting, video, installation, and digital media. A painting becomes footage. Footage becomes an installation. The medium follows the idea, never the other way around. Rejecting rigid disciplinary boundaries, she allows the underlying idea to dictate the choice of medium. Ultimately, Jun continues to explore the open, transitional spaces between analog and digital, and between distant homes
