기괴한 형상의 식물종류로 보이는 덤불과 같은 형상은 서홍석 작가가 그 동안 수 천 점의 드로잉 작업과정의 연속성에서 발현된 자유로운 표현과 사유에서 기인한 기술적인 흔적들이다.

그는 평소 많은 인문학적 독서를 통해 고통과 환희라는 양극적 감성을 철학적 소고에 기반한 정상과 비정상 사이 또는 ‘자크 데리가’가 얘기하는 차이와 연장에서 차연(差延)이라는 이항대립의 명제들에서 빛과 어둠 그리고 기괴한 형상의 자연 대성을 표현하면서 일반적인 시각에서 벗어난 색채의 붕괴를 시도한다. 괴테의 색채論에서 ‘빛과 어둠의 상호작용’ 같은 비현실의 시각적 모호성의 현상학을 추적하고 있다.

이것은 작가의 미의식 세계에서 깊게 잠재된 결핍이라는 원초적 욕망(Libido)으로부터의 탈피를 갈망하면서 그만이 지배하고 있는 감성과 사유세계로 회기 하려는 행위이며 무의식이라는 공간 사이에서 진실된 소외(疎外)와 자아(自我)를 재현하려는 독특하고 세련된 방식의 직관과 광기(Madness)의 미학을 실험하고 있는 것이다.  (Alvin Lee)
