In the past, artist Park Young-yul achieved considerable attention and accomplishments in the art world through his representational works known as the Pine Tree Series. Since then, through deep insight, he has been tracing the essence of painting and experimenting with the gap between the materiality of painting and visual perception, immersing himself in a new transformation at this point. The current mode of work establishes a dual-structured frame that arises from experimenting with transcendental limits in flat painting. It reproduces painting as a discourse concerning the dynamics of the physical phenomena of abstract imagery and color flow, in which the hybrid fusion of real and virtual phenomena arises from the extreme opposition between the inner and outer representations. It also realizes in the work a non-visual phenomenon that expresses the painteric reality of existence and non-existence. At the same time, he examines the meaning inherent in colors that objectify the subjective reality of the external subject, and expresses his deeply embedded unconscious through pictorial symbolic signs outwardly. In his recent works, he creates extraordinary pieces that abstract the representation of symbolic colors in Eastern thought through the brush as a medium, expressing a fluid flow in monochrome calligraphic form, and then reproducing the symbolized forms of color on that surface.

박영율 작가는 과거 소나무시리즈라는 조형성의 재현작품으로 미술계에 상당한 주목과 성과를 이루었다. 이후 그는 깊은 통찰을 통해 회화의 본질을 추적하고 회화의 물성과 시각적인 인식 사이 간극을 실험하면서 이 지점에 새로운 변화에 몰입하고 있다. 현재의 작업방식은 평면성의 회화에서 초월적 한계를 실험하면서 발생되는 이중구조의 프래임을 설정한다 그리고 내부와 외부 표현의 극한 대립에서 발생되는 혼성된 실재와 가상의 융합현상을 추상적 이미지와 색상흐름의 물리적 현상의 역학관계에 관한 회화를 재현하고 있으며, 존재와 비 존재의 회화적 실제를 표현하는 비시각의 현상을 작품에 구현하고 있다. 동시에 외부 대상이라는 사유적 실재를 객관화한 색상에 내재한 의미를 고찰하고 자신의 내재한 깊은 무의식을 회화적 상징기표로 외부에 표현하고 있다. 최근 작품은 동양사유에서 상징적 색상의 표상을 붓이라는 기재를 통해 유동적 흐름을 단색조의 캘리그래픽으로 추상화하고 그 표층 위에 다시 상징화된 색상의 형상을 재현하는 비상한 작품을 만들고 있다.

세상 모든 존재들은 변화할 수밖에 없는 숙명을 지니고 살아가고 있다. 더군다나 우리 인간은 무수한 생각과 더불어 살아가는 존재이기에 그 변화라고 하는 숙명은 가혹한 짐 꾸러미 일 수밖에 없다. 최근 작품에서 사유적 전환은 철저히 ‘나의 내부’ 만을 향한 의미적 전환이라고 할 수 있고 그 여정의 시작은 몇 년 전의 나의 작업들에서 이미 예견 되었다. 나의 사유의 표면에 서식하며 나를 지배하고 있는 ‘자아’ 라는 의식의 영역과 그와 동시에 내 사유의 심해에서 꿈틀대는 ‘무의식’ 이라고 하는 우주와도 같은 영역들..작가노트 중
