Cho Yong-Moon  traces the form of the traditional image “Daedongyeojido” and explores aesthetic elements in the traces of past history, seeking the roots of our spiritual thought and identity based on a humanistic geographical narrative. He discovered his own creative medium and, through various experiments with surface textures, reinterpreted them into a visual language, creating large-scale installations over a long period under the coined term “mapping.” The object in the medium he frequently uses is cardboard. The aesthetics of excavating between the unique grain of the cardboard has, in fusion with the artist’s inherent unconscious, sometimes sublimated into metaphors of time and memory through the flow of corrosion and oxidation, transforming into a new language. Through his work, he creates textures by producing a surface engraved with intense and subtle color tones that sublimate the spirit of labor, and through the exploration and experimentation of new media, he pursues an aesthetics that seeks a fractured gap between abstract expression and representational representation, acquiring pop elements of the hybrid concept and the accidental texture of spontaneity through the investigation and experimentation of new media.

조용문작가는 전통의 이미지인 ‘대동여지도’의 형상을 추적하고 과거역사의 흔적에서 미학적 요소를 탐구하면서 인문지리학적 서사를 기반한 우리의 정신적 사유와 정체성의 뿌리를 찾는 작가다. 그는 자신만의 창의적 매체를 발견하여 표면 질감에 대한 다양한 실험을 통해 조형언어로 재해석하고 ‘ mapping’ 이라는 조어로 오랜 기간 대규모 설치작업을 해왔다. 그가 즐겨 사용하는 매체의 사물은 골판지다. 골판지의 독특한 결과 골 사이에서 발굴하는 미학은 작가의 내재된 무의식과 융합되면서 때로는 부식과 산화과정의 흐름에서 시간과 기억의 메타포로 승화 되며 새로운 언어체계로 변환되고 있다. 그의 작품에서 보여지는 노동성의 혼을 승화한 강렬하고 미묘한 색채감에 음각된 표층을 만들어 텍스추어(Texture)를 구성하고, 새로운 매체의 탐구와 실험을 통해 혼성(Hybrid)개념의 팝 적인 요소와 즉흥성의 우연한 질감을 획득하며 추상표현과 구상성 재현이라는 사이의 균열된 틈을 찾는 미학을 추구하고 있다.
