Alcaston Gallery is thrilled to once again be exhibiting at the 3rd Cairns Indigenous Art Fair 2011. The tropical landscape of far north Queensland comes alive with this unique free three-day event, located at the beautifully renovated and historic Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, which is within walking distance on city centre and The Esplanade. This magnificent, heritage-listed building boasts mountain and sea views, as well as overlooking the mangroves of Trinity Inlet.
Participation in CIAF is by invitation only, and as a result, an even balance of leading commercial art galleries and Indigenous art centres are able to showcase art by Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists all in the one fantastic venue. Alcaston Gallery, in conjunction with Mornington Island Art, will exhibit paintings and sculpture by Queensland artists that will amaze and delight! Our two adjoining stands will feature work by a hand-picked selection of Bentinck and Mornington Island artists including the incomparable Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori, and her daughters, Amanda Gabori and Elsie Gabori, Kuruwarriyingathi Bijarrb Paula Paul, Emily Ngarnal Evans, Netta Loogatha, Dolly Loogatha and Nancy Wilson.
Alcaston Gallery is extremely dedicated to the development and exposure of Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and this could not be achieved without the continued support of the Queensland Government through the Queensland Indigenous Arts Marketing and Export Agency (QIAMEA). Together we strive to not only develop the career paths and livelihoods of many artists, but also to showcase the beauty and freshness of their country and unique artworks to Australia and the world.
