We can see outstanding works in the "2020 Public Art Project" and "Art in Our Neighborhood," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by local governments. The Rabbit Hole Time Gallery in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do, "The time I create" is created and installed there in a tunnel like the ring that connects Jangja Lake Ecological Park in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do and Cosmos Hangang Citizens' Park.
The work "Time I create" is a contemporary conceptual art of space and time, created by Baek Yong-in (Baek Gong), the project's chief artist, and can stay in subjective free time from the objective absolute time of everyday life.
The composition is composed of 18 M x 18 M clock plates with only a needle in a 44 metre tunnel, which is 88 metres on both sides of the tunnel. The clock-board is specially made of dimpled FRP canvas, and the clock-board index is a bar-shaped embossed cube, with the material's essential texture intact without color. The dimple canvas plane introduced the concept of Minkowski's four-dimensional space-time space in Euclidean three-dimensional space, while the dimple canvas clock plate was arranged in an animated stop motion technique. Therefore, the audience is designed to be reminded of the image of the second hand moving as the clock board overlaps in a layer format.
The way to appreciate the work is to walk through a 44-meter tunnel, walk slowly, or use a bicycle to remind me of the speed of my passing time, and take a picture of the time and minute hand of the watch in the photo zone of the central 30-second clock-board. The intention and purpose of this work is not to stop in the visible phenomenon, but to find subjective time in daily life. Artist Baek-gong adds that the time he imagines lying in bed from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. is his subjective time beyond absolute time.
A piece of art is also a measure of urban dignity. It is even more so if the work has a special meaning in our lives. The rabbit hole time gallery's work "Time I Create" may not just stay in the historical story but provide new values at a time when a sense of community coexistence is needed after Corona19. The "time I Create" in which the audience participates directly as an element of the work and is completed is likely to become a contemporary art of Guri City that enhances residents' thoughts, cultural enjoyment, and urban dignity. It is also comparable to the final work of Mark Rothko, Roscoe Chapel. Now there is a clear reason to forward to the "Rabbit Time Gallery."
