Hong's "Frozen Flowers" are flowers that endured an arduous condensing process. The reason why natural flowers look so beautiful is because they wither. Hong's work reveals the ephemeral nature of flowers in a very paradoxical way. The finiteness of "Frozen Flowers" arises from the illusion that the flowers are protected from time in its frozen state. Thus, flowers filled in ice demonstrate an obvious contradiction - they aspire for their permanent existence, but they are doomed to vanish, soon. To that extent his work gives us a somewhat bitter feeling.

In the long run, "Frozen Flowers" are represented as a symbol to encompass repetitive survival and extinction. His symbolized art results from images captured by a camera. The ice that freezes life is the trap of time.  The captured flowers are then recaptured by camera and printed as photos to provide various images. He freezes time and reproduces into ice and images. Just as Anemone, the flower of wind, is symbolized as a mythical mechanism, 'Frozen Flowers' symbolize multiple meanings through a photographic mechanism.
