만물이 소생하는 5월, 아시아의 물류허브 Shanghai 에서 제5회 상하이 아트엑스포가 개최될 예정입니다. 예로부터 아시아의 해상 실크로드인 Shanghai 는 인구 2천만명의 대도시이며, 금융과 유통의 상징도시로써 국제적으로 이름을 떨치고 있습니다. 아시아 지역 물류의 요충지일 뿐만 아니라, 세계경제의 핵심도시의 하나이며, 중국 경제의 최대 관문으로 다가오는 2010년 World Expo 세계국제박람회 개최지로 선정되여 막대한 예산을 투자하여 인프라 구축과 마지막 준비에 박차를 가하고 있습니다.
어려운 세계경기의 흐름과 달리 이러한 역동성은 작가들에게는 긍정적이고 희망적인 가능성을 시사해 주고 있습니다. 또한 최근 아시아에서 Singapore, Hongkong 과 함께 가장 활성화된 미술시장으로도 그 명성을 높이고 있습니다.
그 규모는 한국 미술시장의 10 배 정도에 이르며 작품 판매 실적에 있어서도 아시아에서 부동의 1위를 자랑하고 있습니다. 이번 행사에 한국은 정체된 한국시장으로부터 탈피하여 국제 미술시장의 전략적 확대를 꾀하고 한국작가를 국제무대에 등용시켜 그 위상과 가치를 홍보하는 측면에서 역량있고 잠재력 있는 한국의 주요작가 20명이 참가할 예정입니다.
