When Zou Wei  left for Russia in 2000, he had planned to stay in Russia for two years to study Russian realism and to travel around Europe for another two years to study European modern art...

Having accomplished much in Russia, Zou returned to Shenzhen in October 2004 with the belief that he could become a professional artist and live well by selling his work, however, as soonas he came back, he realized the classic trainning and realist techniques accquired in Russia was out of date...

Zou began to teach urban art to undergraduate students in the college of art , Shenzhen University in October 2006, while teaching the class, Zou got an opportunity to review the development of modern European painting, from pop art down through various contemporary vant-garde art movements.
Zou said his Flying People series, which defined his place in the contemporary Chinese art scene, was inspired by his perception of distinct cultural differences between Chinese and Western societies...

Zou believes that the Flying People series is his unique way of criticizing modern Chinese society. He says that he is not used to the pose of talking to himself with a serious face, but prefer to express himself with the painting language in an unorthodox and relaxed way, which has made him find a great pleasure on canvas.
