설립자 래리 가고시안(64)은 미국 로스앤젤레스의 UCLA 캠퍼스에서 그림 포스터를 팔며 ‘비즈니스’를 시작한 입지전적 인물. 1985년 뉴욕에 갤러리를 연 이후 블루칩 현대 미술 작가의 작품을 사서 되파는 데에 독보적 솜씨를 발휘했다. 데이비드 게펜, 찰스 사치 등 전설적인 콜렉터들과 거래하면서 88년 제스퍼 존스의 작품을 1700만 달러, 2008년 제프 쿤스의 작품을 2350만 달러에 사들여 생존작가 작품의 최고 가격을 스스로 경신한 화랑이다
